Behind Better Mondays is a guy who went on a 12-year journey to find what he loved—and didn’t stop until Mondays stopped sucking.
My name is John, and my journey to better Mondays started 12 years ago (although I had no idea at the time).
I was 18 years old, a freshman in college, and got a job working at Whole Foods. I started pushing carts, then moved to the produce department stocking fruits and vegetables. But my Mondays sucked. So I applied for a supervisor role, and got it. Then a year later I applied for an assistant manager job, and got that too. But my Mondays still sucked.
A year later, I got a job at KPMG, a role I had applied to 8 months earlier (sometimes the waiting can be excruciating). This was my first time in corporate America, and I thought, "I finally made it!" But guess what? My Mondays still sucked. I worked at KPMG for 2.5 years until I had decided to move on.
I landed an opportunity at a medium-sized law firm, first with their IT department, then on their marketing team. I thought that marketing would be a good fit for me. I was creative, strategic, and persuasive. But 2.5 years went by, and I got the itch. Because my Mondays still sucked.
I found a job as a marketing manager at an employee benefits technology company. I interviewed and thought I had bombed (a story for another day). But a week later, I got a call with an offer, and I accepted. We were a small business of less than 20, so I had the opportunity to explore different areas of the company as we grew. Although I was the marketing manager, I began to develop an IT department. I then ventured into administration, operations, customer service, and other areas. Before I knew it, 5 years had passed, and I was the Director of Operations of a company with over 250 employees. I had finally found my niche, that things that made Mondays not suck anymore.
For me, that thing was developing people into leaders. Throughout the past 5 years, I oversaw the 15x growth of a company, oversaw three acquisitions, led my own division, and built a complex Cyber Security infrastructure. But the thing that really made me come alive, made me excited to wake up on a Monday morning and start the week, was seeing the people that I hired and mentored growing and becoming pivotal parts of who we were as a company.
Why am I telling you this? Because I want to prove to you that it doesn't matter where or how you started. It just matters that you START. The challenge is, most people don't know how to start, or they are afraid to start. I have been in both of those places, and gratefully had the mentorship of some amazing leaders in my life who taught me what to do, and how to do it. Now, I want to share all that I have learned.
Please understand, this IS NOT a get-rich-quick scheme. I am not going to teach you how to turn a dollar into a million. I am not going to make you the next Bill Gates. But, what I can do, is help you to explore your goals in depth—whether that’s landing a new job, finding a passion, negotiating a raise, planning your next career move, or building long-term professional growth.
We’ll dig into what’s working, what’s not, and create a clear, personalized action plan to move you forward. You’ll walk away with clarity, strategy, and renewed confidence in your path.
You'll walk away with an attainable plan to love your Mondays again.
